I am a writer based in Lusaka, Zambia. My journey in animation began with getting the opportunity to pitch an animated TV series to Triggerfish Animation Studios’ Story lab initiative in 2015. The Series, Mama K’s Super 4, was selected into story lab for development and has just been picked up for production by a broadcaster as an African Animated TV Series. I grew up watching superheroes and, as an adult, it is still my favourite genre. Who doesn’t love rooting for the underdog rising up to save the day, against all odds? If there’s one thing that the genre taught me, it’s that anyone can be a superhero, and with just a little something *extra* they could do great things. So, why is it that there are no superheroes that look like me? And why can’t there be superheroes that live in a world that sounds, looks, and feels like mine? In creating a superhero show set in Lusaka, Zambia, I hope to introduce the world to four kick-ass African girls who save the day in their own fun and wacky way and, most importantly, show the world that anyone can be a superhero and that, sometimes, they can come from the most unlikely places.
