CTIAF X DFM – Beyond the Festival Circuit: Who Is Watching African Animation?

Africa is producing ambitious, award-winning animation; but who is commissioning it, who is watching it, and where does it find an audience beyond the festival circuit? With much of the industry still focused on selling African stories to international markets, are we doing enough to develop audiences at home? This discussion looks at the full pipeline from commissioning and production to distribution and audience development. Who is investing in locally made animation? Who owns the audiences and the platforms that reach them? And how do we build a sustainable African market for African animation while still taking our stories to the world?
